In just 4 short weeks, we will be partaking in the CrossFit Open as a community. Some would say this is the most exciting time to be apart of a CrossFit gym, and we couldn’t agree more.
For those who aren't familiar, the CrossFit Open is a three week long online competition and the first qualifying stage for the CrossFit Games. Once it begins, every Thursday CrossFit will release one workout (modifications available) for all of the CrossFit community to participate in. By Sunday, you'll submit your score to an online leaderboard where you can see where you stack up by affiliate, age, or worldwide. But before you start thinking “I am no CrossFit Games athlete! Why would I do that?” Let us explain!!
Here are our top 3 reasons why you (yes you!!) should sign up:
1) The Open is for EVERYONE. Modifications are available for each workout, so you can choose which variation best fits your current fitness. It's similar to a class workout, in that everyone does the workout together even if they vary by degree. We encourage the entire gym to join in the fun, whether you've done it every year or this is your first time. It's a special time for our community!
2) It's FUN! Our "Friday Night Lights" is ELECTRIC. Each Friday of the Open, the evening classes will be cancelled so that we can run heats for everyone who wants to take on the Open workout. Plus you won't want to miss our Head to Head battles that will kick each FNL off. We have some fun matchups in the works and will be announcing them soon!
3) Lastly, it’s the time of year where we often see the most exciting pr’s or “firsts”! There are so many instances where we've watched people surprise themselves simply because they got out of their comfort zone! First muscle ups, first double unders, pr snatch, etc. Imagine what it could be for you!
Well, we hope by now you're pumped up to sign up for the Open and experience our Friday Night Lights. If you want to sign up, head to games.crossfit.com and register under "North Rim CrossFit" as your affiliate so we can approve your scores. And mark your calendars for March 1st, 8th & 15th. If you have any questions, leave a comment on one of our social media posts and we'll be happy to answer!
